Join the Sustainability Movement – Free Repairs at the Roxbury Repair Cafe

April 10, 2025| Community, Environment, Events

By: Patrick Krudop

Do you have broken appliances, a bike with a chain that needs fixing, or a favorite piece of clothing with a stubborn hole in need of a patch? Maybe it’s a piece of jewelry with a broken clasp or an item you simply haven’t gotten around to repairing. If this sounds familiar, we’ve got great news for you! The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is partnering with the Roxbury Library and Roxbury Recycling to host the first-ever Roxbury Repair Cafe!

What is a Repair Cafe?

Repair Cafes are community-driven events where people bring in broken items—from electronics and tools to household objects—and skilled volunteers help repair them for free! Whether it's fixing a cracked mug, mending a tear, or breathing new life into old gadgets, our Repair Cafe aims to bring the community together, lend a helping hand, and maybe even teach you something new in the process!

Why You Should Join Us

Repairing items instead of tossing them into the trash isn’t just about saving money—it’s also an environmentally friendly way to reduce waste and keep items out of landfills. By giving your belongings a second life, you’ll be supporting sustainability while strengthening our community ties.

Where & When

To accommodate the variety of items that can be repaired, we’ll be hosting the event at two locations: the Roxbury Fire Department Company 2 and the Roxbury Public Library, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the types of repairs available at each location. We ask that you bring only items you can carry yourself, as volunteers will not be available to help transport items to or from your vehicle. There is a limit of two items per person to help ensure everyone has a chance to get something repaired.

How to Participate

Please register in advance on the Roxbury Library website to help us prepare and ensure you get the support you need when you arrive. While walk-in appointments may be available on the day of the event, registering ahead of time is the best way to guarantee a spot in our fixers’ schedules.

We can’t wait to see you and help breathe new life into your favorite items!
