This Giving Tuesday, every drop counts!

November 28, 2022| Environment, Fundraising

By: Caitlin Doran

Each Giving Tuesday - the global day of generosity following Thanksgiving - our community comes together in a big way to support our efforts to protect and improve Lake Hopatcong.  Over the years, members and friends have supported programs and initiatives that have helped us advance our advocacy, environment, education, and community efforts. This Giving Tuesday, we hope we can count on you to support our Every Drop Counts campaign.

Our theme for 2022, our 10th anniversary year, was clean water. Whether you boat, fish, swim, sail, paddle, live, work, or play at Lake Hopatcong, we all rely on clean water. And, appropriately, we share this milestone year with the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act – the principal law governing pollution control and water quality of our nation’s waterways.

Like the goals of the Clean Water Act, much has been accomplished on our lake, but there is still much that needs to be done! With your help, we can continue and expand clean-water initiatives like the following:

  • Educating 1,800 students and adults about water ecology and stewardship
  • Assisting with the installation of projects like the floating wetland islands in Landing Channel and Ashley Cove
  • Helping monitor harmful algal blooms (HABs) and funding emergency HAB treatments
  • Pursuing grant funding for more water quality projects, potentially adding to the combined $1.2 million received in partnership with the Lake Hopatcong Commission since 2020
  • Continuing our Water Scouts program, which monitors and removes highly invasive water chestnut weeds

Every student we educate, every water chestnut plant we remove, and every water quality improvement project we help implement makes a difference. And so do you, with every dollar you generously donate in support of these efforts.

When you give a gift in support of our efforts to protect and improve water quality at Lake Hopatcong, we’ll add your drop to our map! Give a gift in any amount today and watch how, together, we can make a big difference on Lake Hopatcong!
