The newly designated National Water Trail includes routes along Lake Hopatcong, Lake Musconetcong, and the Musconetcong River.

Making a difference and working to keep our lake safe!  
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation works to foster a vibrant and healthy Lake Hopatcong and its surrounding community. We do this through a variety of programs and initiatives in the following areas: environment, education, community and historical preservation, public safety, recreation, and arts and culture.

Environment

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation has a strong focus on maintaining and improving the lake environment as the health of the lake affects all facets of the Lake Hopatcong experience. Programs center around improving water quality and invasive aquatic species prevention.

Education

Water has an impact on our environment, economy, and community. The Foundation is dedicated to understanding Lake Hopatcong’s value as a vital resource and passing that knowledge along to our children, ensuring that it will be carried to future generations.

Community

With four towns, two counties, and the state,  all claiming at least some portion of Lake Hopatcong, the community can sometimes feel disjointed. One of the goals of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation is to build the sense of lake community, and to support the local businesses that surround it.

Public Safety

As safety is always of the utmost importance on Lake Hopatcong, the Foundation has developed a multi-faceted approach to improving safety and protection on Lake Hopatcong. Our programs include a dock numbering program and added police patrols. In past years we have funded signage campaigns to report dangerous boating and have also contributed to the Jefferson Fire Department's purchase of a new fireboat for the lake.

Recreation

The Foundation is working to improve and enhance recreation opportunities on and around Lake Hopatcong. The centerpiece of our efforts is the Lake Hopatcong Trail, which, when completed, will traverse approximately 40 miles through four towns, eventually encircling the lake.

Arts & Culture

The rehabilitation of the historical Lake Hopatcong Train Station and subsequent opening of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation Environmental and Cultural Center provides the Foundation with the ability to offer a selection of programs and exhibits open to the public.
