Growing upwards of 6' tall, Joe-Pye weed is crowned with clusters of bright pink flowers with a vanilla-like fragrance in late summer. Its flowers and seeds have been used in the production of pink and red dyes and it is one of the most popular plants for attracting butterflies.
Native Americans historically used its roots and flowers to treat urinary and kidney ailments, and steeped the roots and leaves in hot water to treat fever and inflammation. Joe-Pye weed was also used by Native Americans and early colonists to treat typhus.
