On September 13, 2024, Congressman Tom Kean Jr. hosted his second annual Seniors of Distinction event at the Bridgewater Township Senior Center, recognizing local residents for their long-standing contributions and ongoing dedication to their communities. Among the 29 honorees were our board chair, Marty Kane, along with Lake Hopatcong area residents Ida Brown, Donna Moser, Robert Rossi, and David Gardener.
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Marty Kane, who has been recognized for his outstanding efforts in protecting and improving Lake Hopatcong. Marty is widely regarded as a historian and ambassador for New Jersey’s largest lake. He serves as both our board chair and the president of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum.
One of Marty’s most significant achievements was his leadership in advocating for legislation passed in 2021, which secured $10M in appropriations for water quality improvement projects and recreational opportunities at Lake Hopatcong and other public lakes across New Jersey.
Driven by a lifelong passion for Lake Hopatcong, Marty often shares his optimism for the lake’s future, saying, “The best days for Lake Hopatcong are here right now—and will only get better.”
Additionally, we would like to recognize the achievements of Ida Brown and Donna Moser, both of Hopatcong, Robert Rossi of Landing, and David Gardener of Mount Arlington.
Ida Brown is described as a “walking encyclopedia of Hopatcong” and credited with serving on several local boards, contributing to almost all local events, and for personally making and delivering food to those in need.
Donna Moser was honored for founding the “Hope” bereavement group at St. Jude Parish in Hopatcong, ensuring that no one goes through the grieving process alone. In addition to this, she was recognized for her volunteer tutoring and fundraising efforts for the church.
Robert Rossi was recognized for his extensive service to his local community. He recently celebrated 50 years of service to the Roxbury Fire and First Aid Company 2, where he is currently a trustee; he has served as deputy chief, captain, lieutenant engineer, and assistant engineer. He is among the top four responders for the community.
David Gardener, an Army veteran who served as a paratrooper, was celebrated for his contributions to the veterans’ community in Mount Arlington, earning acclaim from the Mount Arlington Borough Mayor and Council, as well as the broader community.
“All the seniors honored dedicate their talents, passions, and experience toward enriching the well-being of New Jersey communities,” said Congressman Kean. “Their impressive achievements and extensive involvement in both professional and volunteer activities reflect their dedication and hard work. I extend my warmest congratulations to all the seniors recognized today and thank them for their tireless efforts to uplift our communities.”
We are fortunate to have such passionate and dedicated individuals among us. Here’s to Marty, Ida, Donna, Robert, and David! We are deeply grateful for the many ways they have shared their time and efforts. Cheers, and thank you!
