Did you know that around 30% of annual charitable giving happens in December, and 10% occurs in the last three days of the year? The Lake Hopatcong Foundation, like many non-profit organizations, relies on the generosity of supporters to effectively carry out our mission, and your year-end donation is critical to our success. Here are five ways you can give a gift that supports a vibrant and healthy lake and surrounding community – ways you might not have previously considered!
Your cash gift can be made securely online or by mailing a check to the Lake Hopatcong Foundation: 125 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850.
You can double your donation by seeking out a matching gift from your employer. Many companies offer 1:1 matches. Simply fill out a matching gift form, which is generally available through your company’s human resource department. And if you volunteer with us, many companies also offer separate grants based on hours volunteered.
By donating appreciated securities that you have owned for longer than one year, you receive the same income tax savings as giving a gift of cash, while avoiding capital gains tax.
If you are 70 years and six months or older, you can directly transfer money from your IRA, essentially making a tax-free donation that counts towards your required minimum distribution for the year.
Let us know now about a deferred gift! Your bequest, made through a will or a revocable trust, can be a percentage of an estate, a fixed dollar amount, or an amount left after other payments.
