Join us for a private screening of the award-winning film, American River (2021, 86 minutes), at the intimate movie theater located at Camp Jefferson on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 pm. A Q&A with the film’s producer, Kelly Sheehan, and river guide and star of the film, Carl Alderson, will follow the screening. This is a rare chance to see the documentary accompanied by insights from the filmmakers. Tickets are $50 and were first made available through our gala and auction in July, to help us raise funds to support our work to protect and improve Lake Hopatcong.
Every river tells a story. American River is a critically acclaimed documentary that follows author Mary Bruno and river guide Carl Alderson on a 4-day, 80-mile adventure down the Passaic River, from its pristine source in a wildlife refuge in Mendham down to its toxic mouth in Newark Bay. The river's amazing history, geology, and ecology are revealed as the kayakers navigate challenges, travel through urban landscapes, and head toward the industrial disaster that has poisoned the Passaic for the past 60 years.
Directed by Scott Morris (Saving the Great Swamp, 2017) and produced by Landing resident Kelly Sheehan of Rainlake Media, American River will be privately screened for no more than 28 people. Tickets remain, but space is limited! Share this opportunity with friends who have a connection to the Passaic, love kayaking, are environmental advocates, film lovers, and anyone who would like to help us raise money to support a vibrant and healthy Lake Hopatcong!
We are so excited to share this opportunity to see a truly impactful film. Many thanks to Scott Morris Productions, Kelly Sheehan, Rainlake Media, and Art Bonito of Jefferson Highlights. If you have any questions, please call Caitlin at 973-663-2500.
