Creating a stronger partnership for a safer lake

May 06, 2021| Safety

By: Kyle Richter

With the summer boating season on the horizon, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, Lake Hopatcong Commission, and representatives from the NJ State Police (NJSP) Marine Bureau, Morris County Sherriff, State Park Police, Morris County Park Police, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the four local police departments convened to discuss working together to make Lake Hopatcong a safer lake.

Discussions centered around promoting safe boating education initiatives, a meet and greet with the Morris County Sherriff and NJSP Marine Bureaus to promote safe boating practices on the lake, creating perimeter navigation channels in Byram Cove to ensure safety and enjoyment for all, wake surfing regulations being contemplated by the state, and the consistency of local noise ordinances.

It was a very productive discussion and we look forward to building on this partnership with our sister organizations and our law enforcement agencies in the years ahead!
