Have a lamp that won’t turn on? A chair that wobbles? Or knives that can’t cut through butter? Instead of tossing them, bring them to the second Roxbury Repair Café on Saturday, October 18, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Roxbury Fire Co. #2, 110 Shippenport Road in Landing, NJ.
Following the success of the first Repair Café this spring, we, along with our partners, the Roxbury Public Library and Roxbury Township Recycling, are teaming up again to offer a free community day of fixing, learning, and connection. More than 20 skilled volunteers will be ready to tackle a wide variety of repairs, including:
Each household may bring up to two items, and for knife sharpening, the limit is three knives per person. Please bring only things you can carry yourself (our volunteers can’t assist with transport).
To help our fixers prepare, appointments are encouraged, though walk-ins are accepted. You can sign up at roxburylibrary.org/repair-cafe-16255.
Why do we love these events so much? Because they’re about more than repairs. Repair Cafés help keep usable items out of the landfill, save money, and create opportunities for neighbors to connect and share skills. At the first event, participants went home with working lamps, sharpened knives, and—maybe most importantly—a stronger sense of community.
We’re proud to be part of this global movement for sustainability and collaboration, and even prouder to see how quickly Roxbury has embraced it.
