A tribute to one of our first volunteers

October 29, 2020| People

By: Marty Kane

George Damerel was one of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation's first volunteers when he spearheaded the effort to introduce a Lake Hopatcong app back in 2012.  He and his wife Kathy remained strong supporters and friends of the organization through the years.  Sadly we lost George this past May at age 77.

George loved sailing and loved the lake. To us at the foundation, we will never forget that magical smile and happy disposition. This past Tuesday, friends and family of George presented us with a special gift.  We received a plaque in George's memory and a donation in George's name.  The plaque will be placed on the Floating Classroom when it goes back in the water in 2021 - such a fitting tribute for someone that felt so strongly about the lake.  It was great seeing Kathy and guests even if the ceremony was held 2020 style.  We will all miss seeing George around the lake!
