From June 19 to 23, our historic train station transformed into an art gallery brimming with imagination and nostalgia. Visitors stepped into our single room exhibit to experience the astonishing range of work by world-renowned fantasy and science fiction illustrator, and longtime Lake Hopatcong resident, Greg Hildebrandt.
Held nearly a year after Greg’s passing in October 2024, Greg Hildebrandt: A Special Art Exhibit was a chance to celebrate his remarkable life, creativity, and enduring legacy. The curated collection featured instantly recognizable characters from Star Wars, Spider-Man, and the Marvel Universe, alongside fairy tale scenes, pin-up art, and personal portraits. Though modest in size, the exhibit offered a powerful tribute to Hildebrandt’s wide-ranging talent and creative vision.
The exhibit opened with a Foundation members-only reception on the evening of June 19, featuring remarks by Jean Scrocco, Greg’s wife and Director of Spiderweb Art Gallery. Jean generously shared stories and insights about Greg’s creative process and his deep ties to the Lake Hopatcong community. We are so grateful to Jean for her partnership in making this exhibit possible and for helping us honor Greg’s legacy in such a personal and meaningful way.
Over the course of the five-day exhibit, more than 200 visitors passed through to experience this tribute to an artist who inspired awe, imagination, and joy in generations of fans, and whose presence remains deeply felt in our local community.
