Lake Loop: why we ride, run, and paddle

September 13, 2023| Events, Fundraising, Recreation

By: Caitlin Doran

Did you know that when you sign on and support our annual Lake Loop challenge, 100% of your donation funds efforts to protect and improve New Jersey’s largest lake?

Thanks to our sponsors, all registration fees and all additional dollars fundraised go directly toward our mission of protecting the environment and enhancing the experience on and around Lake Hopatcong, now and for future generations.

In addition to celebrating our lake as a valuable recreational resource and providing an opportunity to promote health and wellness (and fun!), the Lake Loop is our last major fundraising event of the year, and raises the dollars critically needed to:

  • Float our boat: our Floating Classroom that is! This fundraiser helps us to keep field trip costs low for schools, free for our most local schools, and accessible to all via our public eco-cruise program.
  • Advocate for our lake at a local, regional, state, and federal level: we facilitate greater collaboration amongst decision-makers, we draw attention to issues affecting our lake, and we ask for more resources to help keep Lake Hopatcong clean and healthy.
  • Implement water quality projects that address stormwater: projects like riparian plantings, floating wetlands, and biofiltration basins.
  • Provide free programming at the LHF Environmental & Cultural Center: presentations by experts on eco-friendly landscaping, pollinators, kayaking our local waterways, and more!
  • Continue our B-SAFE dock numbering program: every dock number helps make our lake a little bit safer!
  • Blaze trails: more hiking and paddling trails are in the works, as well as more guided hikes and paddles, giving our community the chance to recreate on and around our lake.

The Lake Loop is a chance to support all of these initiatives in one event – from the seat of a bike, the cockpit of a kayak, or by lacing up those running shoes. So join us on Sunday, October 1, and know that your ride, run (walk), or paddle, makes a big difference to a cause we can all get behind: a healthy lake and community, for all!
