Fall program - Shady secrets: A guide to trees

October 18, 2023| Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, LHF Environmental & Cultural Center

By: Donna Macalle-Holly

Join us for a fascinating journey into the world of trees! Uncover the importance of trees and learn how to care for them with local certified tree expert, Jon Rafalowski. Jon will also delve into environmental challenges trees face like the spotted lanternfly, emerald ash borer, and Dutch elm disease. Finally, he will introduce you to a remarkable selection of trees that can elevate your landscaping projects to a whole new level of distinction.

Program Presenter

Jon Rafalowski is an arborist with Tree Tech Inc. and SavATree with 45 years of experience in the "green industry." Jon earned a bachelor's degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture and managed a family-owned greenhouse and landscaping operation. A resident of Hopatcong, he is an active member of the Hopatcong Environmental Commission. He also lends his expertise to the Great Swamp Watershed Association Advisory Council and dedicates his time as a volunteer for the Big Brother Association. When Jon isn't immersed in his professional and community activities, you can find him tending to his garden, hiking, skiing, or touring on his motorcycle. He is also an avid white-water kayaker and has paddled rivers in 12 states, Canada, Honduras, and Costa Rica.
