Help us with a little spring cleaning

March 19, 2021| Community, Environment

By: Holly Odgers

When debris—plastic bags, bottles, cigarette butts, etc.—is tossed on the ground, it can get washed into storm drains and end up in our waterways. In addition to being unsightly, litter can harm aquatic life and decrease oxygen levels in the water when it decays. If we each take some time to clean up our communities, we can make a BIG difference. If you're itching to get a little spring cleaning done, below are two cleanups that will get you outside in the spring weather and protect our watershed at the same time.

Happy spring cleaning!

Musconetcong Watershed Association's Annual River Cleanup
Saturday, April 17, 2021 beginning at 9:00 am

Each spring, the Musconetcong Watershed Association organizes a river cleanup that draws hundreds of volunteers to remove trash at various locations along the Musconetcong River, from Lake Hopatcong to the Delaware River confluence.

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is pleased to assist this effort each year by coordinating the Hopatcong State Park portion of the cleanup. Hopatcong State Park is location #1 on the river cleanup map and you can join us for this cleanup by registering HERE.

Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Masks will be required when in groups.

LHF Adopt-A-Spot Community Cleanup
Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 8:30 - 10 am

We hope you will join us to pick up roadside debris along Mt. Arlington Boulevard in support of Roxbury’s Adopt-A-Road Program and in celebration of Earth Week.

In just a quick 90 minutes, we usually make a huge difference! No registration is necessary for this event, simply meet us on Mt. Arlington Boulevard in front of the Nixon School (275 Mt Arlington Blvd., Landing) at 8:30 am. Please park your vehicles along the road in front of the school.

Gloves, trash bags, and vests will be provided. Masks will be required when in groups.
