The Virtual Lake Loop Challenge is HERE! Curious how it works?

October 08, 2021| Community, Events, Fundraising, Recreation

By: Caitlin Doran

It’s here!

Today is the first day of the Virtual Lake Loop Challenge, which runs through October 15 - and we’re accepting registrations and donations all week! This is a fitness and fundraising challenge with a goal of getting active for a combined 2,021 hours/miles and raising $50K to support our work protecting the environment and enhancing the experience on New Jersey’s largest lake. Register today and join us, as we bike, paddle, run, walk, jump rope, hold our yoga poses, and ask our support networks to help us raise funds for a healthy, vibrant lake and community.

Want to participate but not sure where to start?

Below are three participants and their personal Lake Loop Challenges. Get inspired or join and/or support them!

Doug Palen and his team, *BRING-BRING* The Kids Along

Doug has recruited the families in his neighborhood and has a full itinerary of Lake Loop fun planned, starting this Friday at 4:30 pm at Landing Park: 165 Landing Rd, Landing, NJ 07850. Join Doug and friends for some “running and rolling”! Bring running shoes or rollerblades and they’ll see you at the park! Looking for a great ride? Adults are invited to join Doug’s team at 8 am at Hopatcong State Park (leave-leave the kids at home for this one) to ride the traditional Lake Loop route: 40 miles around Lake Hopatcong. If Doug's energy and enthusiasm inspire you, you can join or donate to his team, *BRING-BRING* The Kids Along.

LHF Executive Director Kyle Richter challenges you to make him run

Executive Director Kyle Richter is walking the walk, literally! His team, #OFFTHERICHTER, has a goal of raising $1,000 to support a vibrant and healthy Lake Hopatcong and its surrounding community.  For every $50 that team #OFFTHERICHTER raises, Kyle pledges to run 1 mile. Donate to #OFFTHERICHTER and let’s get Kyle movin’!

LHF Development Director Caitlin Doran is biking to work

Inspired by all the impressive cycling during last year’s Virtual Lake Loop Challenge, Caitlin is planning to bike to the LHF Environmental and Cultural Center from October 8-15 and hopes to incorporate more cycling as transportation going into the future, as she pursues a healthier more sustainable lifestyle. If Caitlin’s quest resonates with you, you can join or donate to her team, Loops, I Did it Again!

What will your Virtual Lake Loop Challenge look like?

Register today and keep us in “the loop” by tracking your activity and posting pictures on social media with the hashtag #lakeloopchallenge and #thisishowIlakeloop. We’ll be keeping in touch online and through email.

Here’s to the 2021 Virtual Lake Loop Challenge!

Still have questions?

We've got you covered! Below are the most frequently asked questions we have been receiving. You can also check out our event page for more information!
  • How does the Virtual Lake Loop Challenge work?

Instead of showing up at a specific place and time to perform a prescribed activity, virtual events have the flexibility to be completed whenever you like, however you choose! Normally a bike, run, paddle event, the Virtual Lake Loop Challenge includes many more activities: hiking, walking your dog, doing yoga, jumping rope: anything you can measure in hours or miles and gets you moving from Oct 8-15!

  • What’s the goal?

The Virtual Lake Loop Challenge is a fundraiser for the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and a community activity challenge. The goal of the event is two-fold: raise $50,000 for a healthy, vibrant Lake Hopatcong and surrounding community and get moving for a combined 2,021 hours and/or miles!

  • How Can I Participate?

CLICK HERE to read all about the challenge, learn more about our in-person Awards Ceremony and Celebration on October 17, and most importantly REGISTER on RunSignUp.

On RunSignUp, you can register multiple participants during the same transaction, register kids 12 and under for free (look for the “aged-based pricing” button), and even start a competition/fundraising team and give it a fun name. During the registration process, you’ll be asked to personalize your fundraising page, which is automatically set up for you and your team and can be shared with your support network to help you raise money.

RunSignUp is also where you’ll go to log your activity: activity measured in hours and activity measured in miles. You can submit multiple times! Look for the “Submit Your Activities Here” button.

Want to donate to your own fundraising page or someone else’s? Click the DONATE button on the top of the RunSignUp page and scroll to find all participants and teams. Give one a click to read about their personal challenge and support them!

  • What do I get for Participating in a Virtual Challenge?

In addition to helping the Lake Hopatcong Foundation reach its goal of raising $50K and getting our community moving for 2,021 hours/miles, there are prizes to be won and an in-person after party to attend!

    Fundraising Prizes
Team that raises the most funds: a private cruise with Lake Hopatcong Cruises aboard the Miss Lotta
Individual that raises the most funds: $250 Cycle Craft gift card
Kid 12 and under that raises the most funds: free miniature golf at Lake Hopatcong Golf Club

    Fitness Prizes
Team that completes the most hours: free kayak rental with Lake's End Marina
Individual that completes the most hours: $200 Ramsey Outdoor gift card
Individual that completes the most miles: TBA!
Team that completes the most hours: experience package with Northeast Mountain Guiding

  • Awards ceremony and celebration

On Sunday, October 17, from 12:30 - 3:30 pm participants and their friends are invited to grab a chair and join us at Hopatcong State Park to listen to live music, grab a beer from the beer garden (first beer free for registered participants over 21!), and grab a bite from Lakeview Grill (free lunch vouchers will be provided for all registered participants!).
