Volunteers needed for water quality improvement project

July 14, 2023| Community, Environment, People

By: Kyle Richter

We are looking for volunteers to join us, the Lake Hopatcong Commission, Mount Arlington Borough, and Princeton Hydro on Wednesday, July 19, from 9:00 am to approximately 1:00 pm (you don’t have to stay the whole time!) to plant 400 native plants at Memorial Pond in Mount Arlington. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the water quality of Lake Hopatcong!

As a volunteer, you will assist in digging holes and planting native plants along the western shoreline of Memorial Pond. This endeavor is crucial for stabilizing the pond's banks and preventing erosion. Moreover, these plants will play a vital role in removing excess nutrients, preventing them from entering the pond and ultimately affecting Lake Hopatcong's water quality.

Things to note:

  • Please bring plenty of water and a snack
  • Don't forget your sunscreen (and bug spray, if desired)
  • We will have shovels and gloves on hand, but if you have a favorite pair of gloves, please feel free to bring them

This promises to be a great day helping the lake! If you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity, please feel free to email info@lakehopatcongfoundaiton.org or call us at 973-663-2500.
