Help us build and grow on Giving Tuesday

November 30, 2021| Arts & Culture, Community, Education, Environment, Fundraising, LHF Environmental & Cultural Center, Recreation

By: Caitlin Doran

Giving Tuesday: a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

Giving Tuesday is a day of generosity that occurs on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Each Giving Tuesday, our community comes together to support a timely LHF project in need of financial support, and for that consistent help, we are grateful beyond measure. Over the years, we’ve put forward projects that align with our different program areas, like the final restoration of the Lake Hopatcong Train Station (2020), expansion of our public safety programs (2019), and maintenance of our Floating Classroom (2018) …

This Giving Tuesday, you can make a contribution towards a project that supports all our programs and outreach events.

In just a few short months, the final restoration of our home at the historic Lake Hopatcong Station will be complete, and at that time, we will be required to remove two temporary storage units from our property, leaving us without a place to keep the equipment and items needed to:

  • Outfit and educate more than 1,500 school children on our field trips and aboard our Floating Classroom
  • Maintain the nearly 12 completed miles of the Lake Hopatcong Trail and blaze new ones
  • Transform Hopatcong State Park into the Lake Hopatcong Block Party, a community day enjoyed by families, businesses, and organizations around the lake

…just to name a few!

The problem

The extremely limited storage space in our beloved station cannot support the growing needs of our organization, which now coordinates numerous active environmental and educational programs and large-scale events every year.

The solution

We plan to replace these shipping containers, which we are required to remove, with a much-needed storage outbuilding, in the style of our 1911 train station. Plans for the outbuilding will go before the planning board for courtesy review on December 1.

We need your help!

We’ve set a goal of raising $5,000 this Giving Tuesday to help build this storage depot, which will live permanently on the property and provide essential space to support our growing programs and events. We have recently been awarded a grant to cover much of the costs and are asking for our community’s help to get us the rest of the way there! Any funds raised that exceed our goal will be used to support programs like the ones listed above.

Thank you for considering a contribution towards this year's Giving Tuesday project. As a thank you, all donors who contribute $250 or more will be given one of our legacy burgees from our early years as an organization: a great souvenir as we enter our 10th anniversary in 2022!

This campaign is now completed. If you would still like to contribute to this storage depot campaign, please email Caitlin@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.
