Mayors continue to meet to discuss lake issues

November 19, 2020| Community, Environment, People

By: Marty Kane

This past week, the mayors of Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, and Roxbury continued their regular meetings to stay coordinated in their efforts in regard to Lake Hopatcong.  Meeting with representatives of the Lake Hopatcong Commission and Lake Hopatcong Foundation, the mayors discussed a variety of topics.  Perhaps, the most important was the status of the HABs demonstration projects undertaken in 2020 and plans to ramp up projects in 2021.  There was also discussion on reviewing and agreeing to projects in upcoming grant proposals to be submitted on behalf of the four municipalities.  In 2020, some $1.4M in grant funds was awarded to various HABs and stormwater efforts around the lake.  Other discussions focused on initiatives to improve safety on the lake, possible additional trails coordination, and upcoming stormwater regulatory changes.  These meetings provide the mayors with a forum to focus on lake issues with their counterparts and have resulted in unprecedented coordination for the benefit of the lake.
