A Dock on Lake Hopatcong

Order your dock number by June 1 for July delivery

April 28, 2020| Safety

By: Holly Odgers

If you don’t yet have a B-SAFE (Blue Signs Are For Emergencies) Dock Number, now’s your chance to get yours by July!

These attractive, weatherproof aluminum signs are blue with white reflective numbers. They do not contain any personal information and can be mounted to your dock, boathouse, post, or tree.  B-SAFE dock numbers are designed to help emergency personnel efficiently respond by land or water. Your posted number can also provide an easy way for friends to locate your dock.

Order your sign TODAY!

Order by June 1 for delivery on or about July 1.

About the program

Each lakefront property has been assigned a unique dock number, or “lake address,” which is linked to the 9-1-1 street address. Lakefront property owners may voluntarily purchase and post a B-SAFE dock number where it can be easily seen from the water. If an emergency occurs, an accurate location can be reported using the nearest dock number as a reference point.

How the program works
  • If an emergency occurs on the water, ice or land CALL 9-1-1
  • Locate the nearest dock sign and provide the number to the 9-1-1 operator
  • Emergency resources will be sent to your location
  • Landowners can report a water emergency and the 9-1-1 operator will be able to translate the street address to a water location
