This week, Rep. Mikie Sherrill was successful in having $90 million in funding for sanitary sewers in Jefferson Township approved by the US House of Representatives as part of the Water Resources Development Act.
Failing septic systems are a primary cause of excessive nutrients entering our lake, which fuel the growth of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Installation of sanitary sewers along the lakefront area of Jefferson Township would significantly improve water quality and reduce the threat of HABs in Lake Hopatcong.
The bill now moves to the Senate for a vote, we will keep you updated on its progress.
