What happens to road salt after the snow melts? Join Watershed Ambassador Matt Trochim for an engaging discussion on how road salt is used, why it matters, and the impacts excessive salt can have on our local waterways, ecosystems, and even our health. Learn about smarter alternatives being explored by municipalities and individuals and learn how to reduce your impact while staying safe in winter—plus how you can get involved in monitoring salt levels around Lake Hopatcong.
Matt Trochim is the Watershed Ambassador for 2025-2026 with the New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program (NJWAP) for Watershed Management Area 1, which includes Lake Hopatcong and the Musconetcong, Pequest, and Paulins Kill Rivers. NJWAP is dedicated to promoting good stewardship of our water resources through education and community involvement such as litter cleanups, invasive species removals, and educational presentations.
